Holloid
Holloid GmbH develops AI-powered, real-time holographic microscopy systems for continuous bioprocess monitoring, enabling automated detection and classification of microorganisms in industrial fermentations and other biotechnological environments.
About
Holloid GmbH, founded in 2022 as a spin-off from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. The company emerged from research at the Institute for Colloid and Biointerface Science (ICBS) and builds on years of academic work in digital holographic microscopy and image-based particle characterization. Holloid’s core technology combines inline holographic microscopy with AI-based data processing, allowing real-time visualization, identification, and quantification of microorganisms directly inside bioreactors — without the need for sampling. This enables faster, safer, and more efficient fermentation and cell culture processes for industrial biotechnology, pharma, and food industries.
