Method and Device for Producing Oxidation Products
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method and system for efficiently producing basic chemical raw materials—such as methanol, ammonia, alcohols, or carboxylic acids—starting from carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). The process uses a high-temperature electrolytic cell to generate syngas (a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide) and oxygen. The syngas is then converted into intermediates, which are further oxidized using the generated oxygen to produce the target substances. The system allows precise control over the produced gas ratios and streamlines the integration of all steps, improving overall process efficiency.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Production of methanol from CO2 and water for use as fuel or chemical feedstock.
- Sustainable ammonia synthesis for fertilizers, starting from renewable sources instead of fossil fuels.
- Manufacture of carboxylic acids, aldehydes, and ketones as precursors for plastics, solvents, or pharmaceuticals.
- Conversion of renewable electricity and captured CO2 into valuable chemicals (Power-to-X technology).
- On-site production of specialty chemicals in industrial plants or chemical recycling facilities.
- Space missions: in-situ resource utilization by converting Martian CO2 and H2O to fuels and life support materials.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly improves the efficiency of chemical raw material production from widely available and sustainable sources (CO2 and H2O).
- Allows flexible and tailored syngas composition for various downstream chemical processes by adjusting operation parameters.
- Integrates oxygen produced during electrolysis directly into subsequent oxidation processes, minimizing waste and maximizing resource utility.
- Reduces dependence on fossil fuels, supporting decarbonization and circular economy initiatives.
- Operates at high temperature, increasing reaction rates and system economic viability.
- Can facilitate closed-loop or on-site chemical production, reducing transport needs and emissions.

Patent Abstract
It is the object of the invention to efficiently produce raw materials. To solve this object, a method for producing a raw material comprises the following steps: - Supply of CO and H2O into the cathode chamber of an electrolysis device and generation of a synthesis gas by applying a direct voltage to the anode located in the anode chamber and the cathode located in the cathode chamber of the electrolysis device, wherein the anode chamber is separated from the cathode chamber by a wall permeable to oxygen ions; - Further processing of the synthesis gas produced by electrolysis into an intermediate product; - Production of the raw material by oxidation of the intermediate product with the oxygen produced by the electrolysis. The invention furthermore relates to a device for carrying out the method.
