Process for Preparing Aerosol Particles by Spraying an Aqueous Starting Solution
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent presents a process for preparing aerosol particles by spraying an aqueous starting solution of a carbonate salt that has been enriched with carbon dioxide, followed by drying and heating (tempering) to form carbonate (or metal oxide) aerosol particles. The method produces a controlled concentration and size of aerosol particles, which can be made from various carbonate or metal salts. The procedure overcomes difficulties with previous methods, especially in obtaining stable, suitably sized and concentrated particles for scientific and industrial use.

- Calibration of environmental or atmospheric measurement instruments.
- Scientific research on the behavior and effects of aerosol particles in the atmosphere, especially regarding climate and air quality.
- Production of standard aerosols for nanotechnology and material science investigations.
- Surface treatment processes such as specialized coating, painting, or surface modifications.
- Production of dispersion materials for polishing applications.
- Use as catalysts or catalyst carriers in chemical processes.
- Studying cloud formation and condensation nuclei in climate research.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables easy, reproducible, and economical production of aerosol particles of a controlled size and concentration.
- Applicable to a variety of carbonate salts and metal salts, increasing versatility.
- Can produce particles suitable for accurate instrument calibration and scientific studies.
- Overcomes issues of low solubility and poor particle yield found in older methods (like powder dispersion or suspension spraying).
- Simplifies the process with fewer specialized apparatus requirements.
- Improves stability and consistency of the resulting aerosols for reliable experimental results.
- Allows for the production of both carbonate and metal oxide aerosol particles, supporting broad applications across research and industry.

Patent Abstract
Producing aerosol particles, comprises producing an output solution by (a) aerating an aqueous solution containing a carbonate salt, which is present at least up to its solubility product dissolved in water, with carbon dioxide, (b) separating the resulting bicarbonate-containing solution (initial solution) from the solid carbonate salt, spraying this initial solution, drying the obtained mixture of aerosol particles, gas and water, and tempering the aerosol particles at >= 150[deg] C to convert the bicarbonate-containing aerosol particles to carbonate-containing aerosol particles. An independent claim is included for the aerosol particles produced by the above process.
