Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a specialized dipole antenna array designed for hybrid MR-PET (Magnetic Resonance - Positron Emission Tomography) and MR-SPECT (Magnetic Resonance - Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) imaging systems. The antenna elements are uniquely folded at one or both ends, allowing the necessary electrical connections to be located outside of the PET/SPECT sensitive detection area. This design significantly reduces interference and absorption of gamma radiation, resulting in improved image quality and higher sensitivity for both MRI and PET/SPECT scans when used together.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Use in hybrid MR-PET scanners for clinical or research imaging (e.g., oncology, neurology).
  • Use in hybrid MR-SPECT scanners for simultaneous anatomical and functional imaging.
  • Integration into multimodal imaging devices for advanced diagnostic procedures.
  • Potential application in preclinical imaging systems for small animals or research models.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Minimized signal interference between MRI and PET/SPECT components, improving the overall image quality.
  • Increased sensitivity of PET and SPECT measurements, due to reduced gamma photon absorption and scatter by the antenna.
  • Reduction of imaging artifacts (such as foldover in MRI) through optimized antenna geometry and positioning.
  • Design allows for efficient use of available scanner volume and supports usage at high and ultra-high magnetic fields (>3 Tesla, up to 20 Tesla).
  • Cost-effective and technically straightforward to implement in new hybrid imaging systems.
  • Supports the integration and synergy of anatomical (MRI) and functional (PET/SPECT) data with little or no loss in measurement quality compared to using separate systems.

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a dipole antenna array for hybrid MR-PET and MR-SPECT scans, to the use thereof, and to an MR-PET or MR-SPECT tomograph with a dipole antenna array. In accordance with the invention a dipole antenna array is provided, in which the dipole antenna elements (1) have a folding (2) at one end, which folding consists of a bend (3), a bent region (4), and the projection of the bent region (5) of the dipole antenna element (1) over the length of the dipole antenna element (1), the dipole antenna elements at least partially enclosing a cavity. The dipole antenna array is used in an MR-PET or ME-SPECT device, which also forms part of the subject matter of the invention.
