Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a device (10) for detecting a photon or multiple photons on the front face (4) of a multichannel photomultiplier (1). The device (10) comprises the multichannel photomultiplier (1) and an electronic read-out system (2, 3) connected to the multichannel photomultiplier, wherein the electronic read-out system (2, 3) has a main surface area (5) which is smaller than or equal to the surface area of the front face (4). The invention further relates to a system comprising multiple such devices, which also contain logic circuits and thus allow an integrated data preparation and a direct read-out of useful data. Thus, a simple, flexible, and scalable design and a particularly simple controllability with a high degree of automation can be made possible.
