Method for Production of a Bead Single Crystal
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method for producing bead-shaped single crystals from various metals or metal alloys by use of electron beam heating in a vacuum. Unlike traditional flame methods, this technique allows for more precise control, avoidance of oxidation, and the formation of high-quality single crystals with well-defined surfaces and minimal defects. The produced bead single crystals are particularly suitable for use in surface science, thin film technology, sensor development, and electrochemistry.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Production of high-purity single crystal substrates for surface research studies
- Manufacture of reference electrodes or working electrodes in electrochemistry
- Creation of thin films and coatings in microelectronics and nanotechnology
- Fabrication of high-precision sensors requiring well-defined crystal surfaces
- Development of advanced catalytic materials relying on single crystal surfaces
- Production of prototype crystals for crystallographic and material defect studies
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables the creation of high-quality single crystals of both noble and non-noble metals
- Prevents unwanted oxidation and gas inclusions during crystal formation
- Results in single crystals with lower dislocation densities and more homogeneous crystal lattices compared to existing methods
- Capable of producing crystals with precisely controlled crystallographic orientations and smooth surfaces
- Offers greater flexibility in choosing the starting metal or alloy material
- More precise control over crystal size and growth conditions due to the use of electron beam heating and vacuum environment

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for production of a bead single crystal. The bead single crystal is produced by electron beam heating of at least one wire in vacuo. Bead single crystals comprising Ag, Al, Cr, Cu, Ir, Mo, Nb, Ni, Pd, Pt, Re, Rh, Ru, Ta, W or metal alloys, in particular, Ag/Au, Pt/Rh or Pt/Re alloys are advantageously produced by said method. The bead single crystals are preferably used in surface research, thin layer technology and electrochemistry.
