Part Having a Band Assembly for Individual Electron Movement over a Long Distance
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes an electronic component, particularly useful for quantum computing, which enables the controlled movement of a quantum dot (and its quantum mechanical state) over a long distance within a semiconductor structure. It utilizes a specialized arrangement of gate electrodes that create a moving potential well, allowing the quantum dot (such as a single electron or hole) to be transported in a nearly continuous and controlled manner. This approach addresses a key challenge in coupling qubits (quantum bits) across larger distances within quantum computers.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Quantum computers needing coherent transfer of quantum states (qubits) between different parts of a processor.
- Semiconductor devices for precise manipulation and control of individual electrons or holes for advanced electronics and quantum devices.
- Academic or industrial research into quantum information transfer and scalable quantum processor architectures.
- Technologies requiring robust and scalable interconnection between qubits over micrometer-scale distances.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables reliable and scalable coupling of qubits in quantum computers over long distances, solving a major bottleneck in quantum processor design.
- Maintains the quantum state of the quantum dot during transport, which is essential for quantum information fidelity.
- Reduces the required number of control electrodes and voltages compared to traditional approaches, potentially simplifying device fabrication and operation.
- Provides a robust method for moving single electrons or holes within a two-dimensional electron (or hole) gas substrate, enhancing versatility in device design.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to an electronic component (10, 110), which is designed as a semiconductor or having a semiconductor-like structure for moving a quantum dot (68, 168) over a distance. The electronic component (10, 110) comprises a substrate (32, 132) having a two-dimensional electron gas or electron hole gas. A gate electrode assembly (16, 18, 20, 116, 118, 120) having gate electrodes (38, 40, 42, 44, 138, 140, 142, 144) is arranged on a surface (31, 131) of the electronic component (10, 110). The gate electrode assembly (16, 18, 20, 116, 118, 120) produces a potential well (66, 166) in the substrate (32, 132). Electrical terminals are provided for connecting the gate electrode assembly (16, 18, 20, 116, 118, 120) to voltage sources. The invention further relates to a method for an electronic component (10, 110) of this type.
