Method and Device for Generating Electrical Current and Use of an Organic Compound for Generating Electrical Current
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method and device for generating electricity by using specific organic compounds (such as alkenes, alkynes, or furans) that are reacted with water in an acidic environment to create a hydrogen-rich carrier medium. This medium is then used in a fuel cell to generate electricity, with the process producing water and a secondary, depleted hydrogen carrier medium. The process is highly efficient, offers high hydrogen storage density, and greatly reduces or nearly eliminates CO2 and CO emissions compared to traditional alcohol-fueled fuel cells. The approach also enables closed-cycle operation and is especially advantageous for mobile power applications such as vehicles and aircraft.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Powering electric vehicles (cars, trucks, buses) with efficient, low-emission fuel cell technology
- Providing electrical power for aircraft, drones, or other mobile platforms
- Decentralized or portable electricity generation for remote areas or backup systems
- Renewable energy storage and transportation using organic hydrogen carriers derived from biomass
- Integrating into existing fuel cell infrastructure as a drop-in replacement fuel system
- Maritime transport or shipping applications requiring compact, energy-dense power sources
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly higher hydrogen storage density compared to traditional hydrogen or alcohol-based storage
- Drastically reduced CO2 and CO emissions during electricity generation—nearly emission-free operation
- Enables lighter and smaller power systems suitable for mobile and portable applications
- Allows use of renewable, biomass-derived organic compounds as energy carriers
- Closed hydrogen cycle possible—depleted carriers can be reconverted and reused, improving sustainability
- Utilizes atmospheric oxygen and recycles generated water, increasing energy density and system autonomy
- Improved fuel cell longevity due to lower catalyst poisoning compared to methanol or ethanol fuels

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for generating electric current, said method comprising the method steps: providing an organic compound having at least one double bond and/or at least one triple bond; reacting the organic compound with water in a reaction chamber (10) having an acidic environment to form an enriched hydrogen carrier medium; converting the enriched hydrogen carrier medium into electricity to form a depleted hydrogen carrier medium in a fuel cell (2), obtaining water; and providing electric current generated during said conversion into electricity.
