Paper Punch with Oscillating Hollow Drill
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The patent describes an advanced paper punch (or hole puncher) with an oscillating hollow drill as the cutting tool. Unlike traditional punches, this device uses a hollow cylindrical blade that oscillates (moves back and forth in small angles) to punch clean holes in paper, plant leaves, or other sheet-like materials. The device may also include features such as magnetic or vacuum-assisted ejection of the punched sample, and a design resembling tongs for ergonomic handling and access to areas distant from edges.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Sampling plant leaf tissue in laboratories or agricultural research for analysis (e.g., DNA, pathology, chemical analysis)
- Cutting circular samples from materials like paper, films, thin plastics, or textiles for quality control and testing
- Automating sample preparation in robotic systems for laboratories
- Educational or field kits for plant or material collection and study
- Preparation of biopsy or small tissue samples for medical or biological research
- Precision hole punching in manufacturing processes where clean edges are crucial
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Produces cleaner, more reliable punched samples by reducing tearing and incomplete cuts, especially with fibrous or delicate materials
- Minimizes sample loss or contamination, important in laboratory or diagnostic workflows
- Allows punching at locations away from the material's edge, increasing flexibility and usability
- Magnetic or vacuum-assisted sample ejection ensures easy retrieval of the punched sample without damage
- Ergonomic, lightweight, and cordless design enables easy one-handed operation, suitable for both left- and right-handed users
- Modular construction allows for easy maintenance, cleaning, and fast replacement of cutting parts
- Low power consumption means long battery life for field or in-lab use
- Device can be integrated into automated or robotic sample handling systems

Patent Abstract
It is the object of the invention to provide a further developed punch with a hollow drill (6) with which paper or other materials can be punched in a desired manner. To solve the task, a paper punch comprises a hollow drill (6) as a punching tool and a drive for the hollow drill (6). When the drive is activated, the hollow drill (6) oscillates. The hollow drill (6) thus moves mechanically back and forth between two different positions. By an oscillation movement during punching, it is avoided that the punch sample is carried along, for example, by non-severed fibers. Very good punching results are therefore achieved. Preferably, the hollow drill (6) rotates in alternately opposite directions through the activation of the drive and thus oscillates in this way in order to achieve further improved punching results.
