Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention describes a device for non-invasively delivering electrical stimulation signals through the skin to treat pain disorders. It uses two sets of contact surfaces to apply signals that are synchronized to specific phases of abnormal neural activity, targeting different subgroups of neurons in the affected area.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Treatment of chronic pain disorders through non-invasive electrical stimulation
  • Neuromodulation therapy for diseases characterized by abnormal neural synchrony, such as neuropathic pain or certain movement disorders
  • Adjunct therapy in rehabilitation centers for pain management
  • Home-use device for patients needing regular transcutaneous electrical stimulation

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Provides non-invasive, drug-free pain relief
  • Targets abnormal synchronous neural activity more precisely by phase-specific stimulation
  • May reduce side effects associated with systemic medications
  • Allows for tailored therapy by targeting different neural populations through multiple contact surfaces
  • Potentially more effective due to phase-resetting approach in neural modulation

Patent Abstract

The device (100) has a generator unit (1) for producing electrical stimulation signals i.e. pulse train, that are supplied to a transcutaneous stimulation unit (2). The stimulation unit is attached to skin of a patient such that the signals stimulate a population of neurons with a pathologically synchronous and oscillatory neural activity. The signals applied by two sets of stimulation contact surfaces (11-12) of the stimulation unit are reset to two respective phases of the activity for subpopulations of the population. An independent claim is also included for a method for transcutaneous application of a stimulation signal.
