Device and Method for Catalytic Release of a Gas from a Carrier Material
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention describes a device and process for efficiently releasing a gas, such as hydrogen, from a carrier material through a catalytic reaction. At its core, the innovation lies in the arrangement and heating of catalytic materials within a reactor, where heating elements are specifically oriented transversely to the fluid flow, leading to improved heat transfer and more effective gas release. Particular attention is given to liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs), with the system optimizing temperature and gas release rates for different operational goals.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Hydrogen generation from liquid organic hydrogen carriers for fuel cells or industrial processes
- On-site hydrogen production for mobility (e.g., hydrogen refueling stations)
- Portable hydrogen supply for backup power or remote locations
- Efficient dehydrogenation of LOHCs for sustainable energy transport and storage systems
- Industrial chemical processing where gas release from a carrier material is needed
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Improved efficiency and rate of gas release due to optimized heat transfer
- Flexibility between high gas release rates and high conversion levels with adjustable operation modes
- Enhanced thermal management with minimized heat losses via integrated or direct heating elements
- Homogeneous temperature distribution resulting in better catalyst activity and longevity
- Scalable and adaptable design suitable for both batch and continuous operation
- Potential for modular and easily maintainable systems using replaceable catalyst cartridges

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a device (1c) for the catalytic release of a gas from a carrier material, said device comprising a reactor housing (3c), in which catalyst material (8) is arranged, wherein the reactor housing (3c) comprises a feed opening (16) for feeding the carrier material into the reactor housing (3c), a discharge opening (17, 18) for discharging the released gas and/or carrier material from the reactor housing (3c), and a fluid flow direction (19) which is oriented from the feed opening (16) to the discharge opening (17, 18). The device (1c) further comprises a heating element (20) which is at least partially arranged in the reactor housing (3c) and has a longitudinal axis (21) that extends transversely to the fluid flow direction (19).
