Safety Shut-Off Device, I.E. Flow Regulator for Fluid Media, Comprising a Particularly Tubular Housing
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention is a safety shut-off device (flow regulator) for fluids, designed with a tubular housing, a specially shaped movable valve body (like a flat lid or spindle with the shape of a swimming penguin), and an elastic suspension system that allows the valve body to move along the housing's length. The unique elastic suspension—using flexible spring bands or film hinges—ensures reliable, frictionless movement to either fully open or close the valve, providing a simple but effective way to automatically stop fluid flow (e.g., gas or liquid) if certain flow thresholds are exceeded.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Automated protection of household or industrial gas pipelines to prevent uncontrolled gas leaks during a pipe rupture or unauthorized manipulation.
- Water supply systems, where automatic shut-off is needed to prevent overflow or flooding if there is a pipe burst or sudden large flow.
- Integration in chemical or industrial plants to protect systems handling hazardous fluids by cutting off flow in emergency situations.
- Fire protection systems that require automated fluid shut-off on detection of abnormal flow rates.
- HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems to prevent hazardous leaks.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Simple construction with few parts, reducing manufacturing cost and maintenance complexity.
- Reliable long-term function, as the elastic suspension is less prone to wear or malfunction than traditional spring systems.
- Works effectively in both vertical and horizontal installation positions, increasing versatility.
- Frictionless movement of the valve body ensures fast and predictable shut-off response.
- Adjustable shut-off thresholds via a simple screw mechanism, allowing customization for diverse applications.
- Minimized risk of functional deterioration over time due to robust design and materials.
- Potential for compact integration into various piping systems due to minimal part count and simplified assembly.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a safety shut-off device, i.e. a flow regulator for fluid media, comprising a particularly tubular housing, a valve seat that is mounted inside and molded onto the housing, and a rotationally symmetrical valve body which enters in contact with a sealing surface of the valve seat when reaching the closed position. According to the invention, the valve body has the shape of a flat lid or a spindle approximately having the shape of a swimming penguin. The valve body is mounted so as to be longitudinally movable within the housing by means of an elastic suspension that is attached to the housing wall.
