Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention relates to a device designed to keep insects away from specific outdoor areas, particularly to protect grazing animals like horses or cattle. The device uses a shielding element, such as a net or wall, that incorporates microcapsules filled with insecticide. The microcapsules are designed to release the insecticide slowly or when mechanical pressure is applied (e.g., when insects land on the surface), ensuring long-term protection. The device can be moved easily and installed in different locations, providing flexible and localized insect protection without needing to treat or fence entire fields.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Protecting horses, cattle, or other livestock in pastures from biting and disease-carrying insects (e.g., mosquitoes, gnats, horseflies, midges).
  • Creating insect-safe zones around watering holes, feeding stations, or resting areas for animals outdoors.
  • Temporary or mobile insect barriers for outdoor events, such as horse shows, livestock markets, or fairgrounds.
  • Protecting outdoor recreational spaces for humans (e.g., picnics, campsites, sports fields, outdoor dining).
  • Using at refugee camps or temporary shelters to reduce disease transmission from insects.
  • Protecting specific zones in agricultural, veterinary, or public health contexts, such as research test sites or quarantine areas.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Provides long-lasting insect protection due to controlled and sustained release of insecticide from microcapsules.
  • Can be repositioned and reused in various locations, offering flexibility and cost-savings for different use scenarios.
  • Reduces the need to treat or enclose entire pastures or outdoor spaces, minimizing environmental impact and cost.
  • Limits insecticide exposure to only targeted areas, reducing risk for non-target insects (e.g., pollinators) and decreasing overall chemical usage.
  • Can be set up and moved by a single person, improving practicality for farmers and event managers.
  • Effective against a broad range of nuisance and biting insects, improving animal welfare and potentially reducing disease outbreaks.

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a device for keeping away insects from an outdoor area section, comprising a shielding element (3), at least one part of said shielding element (3) comprising an insecticide that can be transmitted to insects touching the shielding element (3). According to the invention, the shielding element comprises a plurality of individual microcapsules (10) which contain the insecticide (13) in their respective interior (11), characterized in that the insecticide is enclosed by an envelope (12) surrounding the interior (11) of the individual microcapsules (10). Alternatively, the device is arranged in an outdoor area that is delimited by a fence device in which animals can move freely right to said fence device. Furthermore, the device can be configured as a mobile system so that it can be removed as a structural unit from its installation site to be put up at a new installation site. The invention also relates to the use of a corresponding device.
