Mucosa Tec GmbH
MucosaTec GmbH develops innovative broad-spectrum antiviral drugs by engineering and boosting human mucus to combat viral and bacterial pathogens.
About
MucosaTec GmbH is a biotechnology company with the mission to enhance the protective function of the human mucus barrier against pathogens. The company specializes in developing novel, broad-spectrum antiviral therapeutics, particularly nasal sprays, using a patented platform technology based on bi-specific natural proteins/peptides that simultaneously anchor to mucus and bind to viruses, preventing their entry into the body. The technology aims to provide a first line of defense against airborne infections, such as influenza and zoonotic viruses like H5N1, with future adaptability to target other pathogens. MucosaTec was founded in 2023 as a spin-out of the SPRIND 'Broad-Spectrum Antivirals' Challenge, and operates in collaboration with both academic institutions and industry partners, with a headquarters in Schiffweiler and R&D and manufacturing in Berlin.
