Device and Method for Generating Monochromatic Radiation from a Radiation Source with Line Spectrum
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention describes a device and method for generating monochromatic (single-wavelength) radiation from a radiation source with a line spectrum, such as gas discharge lamps. It uses at least one off-axis reflection zone plate to selectively separate a specific spectral line from the broader line spectrum. A diaphragm is then used to isolate the desired line, optimizing both efficiency and spectral purity. The system can be cost-effectively integrated and aligned, and is particularly suited for applications requiring high-purity monochromatic light.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Photoelectron spectroscopy (PES), especially in the ultraviolet (UV) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regions
- Surface analysis and characterization of materials in research labs
- Optical calibration sources for scientific instruments
- Monochromatization of gas discharge lamps or plasma sources in analytical instrumentation
- Development of cost-effective monochromatic light sources for educational or research settings
- Any application requiring precise monochromatic excitation, such as spectroscopy, microscopy, or sensor calibration
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Provides high spectral purity by isolating desired spectral lines and removing unwanted satellite lines
- Improves efficiency, allowing more usable monochromatic radiation to reach the sample compared to existing solutions
- Cost-effective compared to conventional monochromators or spectral filtering systems
- Can be easily implemented and aligned (even with visible-wavelength zone plates for alignment), reducing setup time and complexity
- Adaptable for various gases and energy ranges, supporting flexible use in multiple scientific domains
- Enhances the accuracy of experiments and measurements that rely on pure monochromatic excitation

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a device and method for generating monochromatic radiation of a radiation source with line spectrum. Said device comprises at least one radiation source (1) which produces a line spectrum, and an off-axis reflection zone plate (3). According to the invention, the off-axis reflection zone plate (3) is designed to separate a predetermined spectral line of the radiation source line spectrum. A diaphragm (4) is located in the optical path downstream of the off-axis reflection zone plate (3) at the location of a local image of the predetermined spectral line.
