Array of Vertical UV Light-Emitting Diodes and Method for Its Manufacture
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a flexible array of vertical ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), where the light-emitting pn-junction nanowires are embedded in a flexible polymer film. The device achieves flexibility by eliminating rigid substrates and uses either organic, inorganic, or a combination of both semiconductor materials to form the pn-junctions in the nanowires. The structure offers very uniform LED properties and improved light efficiency due to the addition of a thin, light-guiding layer within each nanowire channel. The patent also covers a cost-effective manufacturing process for mass-producing such flexible UV LED arrays.

Patent Abstract
The intention is to specify a flexible array of UV light-emitting diodes in which the nanowires structured as a pn junction of a light-emitting diode have very similar parameters. In an array of vertical light-emitting diodes having a pn heterojunction in the form of nanowires embedded into an insulating organic layer, according to the invention the organic layer is a flexible polymer film, the array without substrate is flexible and the pn junction without insulating interlayer is formed from two organic semiconductor materials or one organic and one inorganic semiconductor material. The nanowires can be produced by filling channels introduced into the flexible polymer film with said semiconductor materials. A light-guiding layer is additionally arranged between the wall of the channels introduced into the flexible polymer film and the nanowire produced.
