Device and Method for Manufacturing Optical Grating and Optical Grating
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention describes a device and method for manufacturing optical gratings—precision structures used in optics to disperse light—using a controllable linear magnetic actuator (such as a voice coil or solenoid) to precisely regulate the pressure applied by the engraving stylus during the scribing process. This allows for dynamic adjustment of groove depths within and between grating lines on various substrate surfaces (flat or curved), enabling the production of complex and multi-section gratings with tailored properties.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Manufacturing high-precision optical gratings for spectrometers and monochromators used in analytical chemistry and physics laboratories.
- Creation of diffraction gratings for X-ray instruments and astrophysics measurement devices.
- Production of variable line space (VLS) gratings for advanced light manipulation in scientific or industrial applications.
- Customization of optical gratings for telecommunications (fiber optics) or laser systems.
- Retrofit or upgrade of existing ruling engines with more precise pressure control for improved grating quality.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables real-time, programmable control of the stylus pressure, allowing groove depth to be precisely tailored for each grating line or within lines, enhancing flexibility and customization.
- Improves the precision and quality of optical gratings, increasing diffraction efficiency and optimizing performance for targeted wavelengths or applications.
- Allows the seamless creation of complex grating structures, such as multiple gratings on a single substrate with parallel alignment, saving manufacturing time.
- Reduces mechanical complexity and cost compared to piezoelectric or traditional weight-based systems, offering easier retrofitting to legacy machines.
- Supports processing of both flat and curved (concave/convex) substrates and even the creation of curved grating lines, broadening the range of possible grating designs.

Patent Abstract
