Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zur Herstellung optischer Gitter, auch Gitterteilmaschine genannt, die eine Halterung für einen Rohling, ein Stichelwerkzeug mit Halterung, motorisierte Vorschübe für die Halterungen in mindestens zwei Richtungen und ein Mittel zur Erzeugung eines Anpressdrucks des Stichelwerkzeugs umfasst. Erfindungsgemäß ist zusätzlich ein Mittel zur Reinigung des Stichelwerkzeugs vorgesehen, wobei das Mittel zur Reinigung des Stichelwerkzeugs sich in einer durch das Stichelwerkzeug erreichbaren Position befindet und gewährleistet, dass während einer Herstellung eines optischen Gitters fortwährend eine unbenutzte Stelle zur Reinigung zur Verfügung steht.
