Thin-Film Photovoltaic Module with Two Output Powers
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a thin-film photovoltaic module design that significantly improves power output by converting previously 'dead' or electrically inactive areas between the standard solar cells into additional, electrically active solar cells. Through extra structuring processes (such as additional trenches and contacts), these regions are enabled to generate a second, independent output, which can be provided separately or combined with the main power output from the conventional active solar cells. The technique does not require extra materials—just additional structuring—making the module more efficient and versatile.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Rooftop and building-integrated photovoltaic installations requiring higher efficiency per unit area
- Portable or flexible solar panels where maximizing output per square centimeter is essential
- Applications where independent dual power outputs are desirable, such as systems with segmented loads or selective energy management
- Remote sensing, satellites, or specialized electronics needing adaptable or redundant solar energy sources
- Solar farms looking to retrofit or adopt more efficient thin-film technology
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Increases total energy output from the same physical module area by turning inactive regions into energy-generating zones
- Provides flexibility in electrical configuration—enabling separate or combined outputs to suit different application requirements
- Improves the efficiency and overall cost-effectiveness of thin-film photovoltaic modules without needing additional active materials
- Facilitates advanced integration with micro-concentrators and energy management systems
- Reduces waste and improves sustainability by making fuller use of the photovoltaic material

Patent Abstract
In order to improve efficiency, in the photovoltaic module (01) according to the invention, provision is made for additional structuring trenches to be arranged within the semiconductor regions (09). As a result, additional solar cells (06) are formed from the semiconductor regions (09), an additional second output power (A2) being generated by said additional solar cells. Said additional second output power can be made available in parallel or additively with respect to the original first output power (A1) of the photovoltaic module (01) claimed by the invention from the original solar cells (05) and can be adapted to the respective requirements.
