Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung einer Position eines Objekts unter Nutzung von drei sinusförmigen Signalen mit Phasenverschiebungen von 120° eines optischen Kodierers. Das Verfahren weist mindestens die Verfahrensschritte der Berechnung einer Position mittels eines Algorithmus und der Ausgabe der Position auf. Die Berechnung und Ausgabe der Position mittels eines Algorithmus ist dabei gekennzeichnet durch die Schritte: Korrektur eines Amplitudenoffset, Normierung der Signale, Ermittlung von linearen Fehlern in den Phasenverschiebungen der sinusförmigen Signale, Bestimmung der Phase mit einem Algorithmus und Berechnung einer Position anhand der Phase.
