Method for Pre-Cultivation and Planting of Forest Trees
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method for precultivating and planting forest trees using a unique biodegradable tube and a water-storing substrate. The process involves growing tree seedlings in a compostable, open-ended tube filled with a special substrate that retains water while maintaining high air content. The seedling develops strong, deep roots in this environment. The tube and seedling, along with the water-rich substrate, are then planted directly into the soil, giving the tree immediate access to water and improving successful establishment, particularly in dry or challenging locations. The invention also includes the vessel (tube) itself, which is specifically designed for this method and degrades naturally in the soil over time.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reforestation of areas affected by drought, deforestation, or fire
- Establishing new mixed forests with drought-resistant tree species
- Restoring damaged forest monocultures to more diverse, resilient ecosystems
- Urban tree planting where soil conditions are poor or water is scarce
- Commercial forestry operations seeking higher seedling survival rates
- Nursery production of robust tree seedlings for shipment and planting in remote areas
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly increased survival and growth rates for young trees, especially in dry or poor soils
- Reduces transplant shock and seedling losses due to water stress
- Enables earlier establishment of deep root systems, improving drought resistance
- Uses biodegradable, environmentally friendly materials—reducing plastic waste in forestry applications
- Enables storage and transport of seedlings with minimal water loss
- Automatable and scalable process—supports large-scale reforestation or restoration efforts
- Flexible for a variety of tree species and adaptable substrate compositions

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method of precultivating and planting woody forest plants. It comprises – the use of a low-solids water-storing substrate having a water-permeable stable structure having an air content of at least 15 per cent by volume at a water content of more than 50 per cent by volume, – protection of this substrate against drying-out by means of the water-impermeable compostable wall of a biodegradable pipe segment which is open at the top and bottom and has a length of 25 to 40 cm and has an isodiametric cross section of width 4 to 7 cm, – the precultivating of a woody plant seedling to a plantable woody plant with a foliated stem on a basal platform in the substrate-filled pipe segment, which is conducted at least until horizontal extension of the initially gravitropically grown primary root at the base of the pipe segment, and – the introducing of the precultivated plant with the substrate-filled pipe segment into a hole in the soil prepared at the planting site after substantial saturation of the retained water capacity of the water-binding substrate. The invention additionally relates to a vessel for precultivating and planting of woody forest plants for use in this method. Figure 1
