Method for controlling a pump, control device, shower arrangement, and storage medium
AISimple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method and system for controlling a pump that removes shower water from a shower system, particularly in installations where gravity drainage is difficult (like barrier-free, floor-level showers). The system uses a performance signal to set how strongly the pump operates, receives signals from a drain sensor that measures water flow, and can adapt the pump output accordingly. It includes error detection and remote communication features to prevent flooding and allow for maintenance from afar. The technology is well-suited for retrofitting floor-level showers, especially in older buildings or buildings with accessibility needs.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Retrofitting old buildings with floor-level, accessible showers where conventional gravity drainage is not possible.
- New construction of barrier-free (accessible) bathrooms and showers.
- Preventing flooding in showers due to drainage or pump malfunctions.
- Smart building or home automation systems involving plumbing and water management.
- Remote monitoring and maintenance of plumbing systems in residential or elderly care facilities.
- Hotels or public facilities upgrading to modern, accessible bathroom standards.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables easy installation of floor-level (barrier-free) showers even where natural drainage slopes are absent.
- Reduces risk of water damage and flooding by actively monitoring and adjusting pump performance based on real water flow.
- Supports error detection and provides real-time failure notifications, improving system reliability and safety.
- Allows remote maintenance, monitoring, and software updates for the drainage system, reducing the need for on-site intervention.
- Energy-efficient: Adjusts pump operation only as needed, avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.
- Facilitates straightforward installation and modular adaptation to various shower and drainage setups, including older buildings.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for controlling a pump (75), fluidically mounted in a drain pipe (70) of a shower system (5) to pump off shower water. According to the method, a pump performance signal is specified, the pump (75) is operated according to the pump performance signal and a drain sensor signal is received by a drain sensor (40) which then measures a flow rate through the drain pipe (70).
