Device for personalizing a person's identity document
AISimple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent discloses a device and method for personalizing an identity document (such as a passport, ID card, or driver's license) by securely capturing a digital facial image of a person and automatically checking for image manipulation (like face morphing or tampering) before the image is saved in the identity document. The system uses biometric features and advanced algorithms (including neural networks or statistical analysis) to detect if the facial photo has been altered, ensuring that only authentic images are used for official identity documents.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Government offices issuing passports, ID cards, or visas to ensure authenticity of applicant photos
- Border control authorities to prevent the use of manipulated images in travel documents
- Corporate environments issuing secure employee badges or access cards
- Banks or financial institutions creating photo-based payment or credit cards
- Ticketing systems or event management for personalized access cards
- Public sector services that require secure, tamper-resistant identity documents
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Increases security and trustworthiness of identity documents by preventing acceptance of manipulated or morphed photographs
- Reduces risks of identity fraud, illegal border crossings, or document sharing between multiple individuals
- Supports global standards for document security and biometric verification
- Automates the detection of image tampering, reducing the need for manual inspection and human error
- Supports both digital and physical photo sources for flexibility in document issuance processes
- Adapts to new attack patterns (like morphing or digital beautification) by integrating advanced algorithms and machine learning for manipulation detection

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a device (100) for personalizing an identity document of a person. The device (100) comprises an image capture device (101) which is configured to capture a first digital reference facial image of the person, wherein the first digital reference facial image has a first reference image resolution. The device (100) further comprises a manipulation detection device (103) which is configured to capture a biometric reference feature in the first digital reference facial image, to compare the biometric reference feature with a biometric comparison reference feature in order to obtain a manipulation indicator, and to detect image manipulation in the first digital reference facial image on the basis of the manipulation indicator. The device (100) further comprises an image generation device (105) which is configured to generate, if no image manipulation is detected, a second digital reference facial image on the basis of the first digital reference facial image, wherein the second digital reference facial image has a second reference image resolution. The device (100) further comprises a personalization device (107) which is configured to store the second digital reference facial image in the identity document of the person.
