Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

The patent describes a highly miniaturized plug/socket test apparatus for evaluating small electrical connectors. It consists of a test plug equipped with integrated measurement cells that can be inserted into a socket to accurately assess the contact normal force exerted by the socket's internal spring elements. Electrical contacts on the plug transmit measurement signals for evaluation, allowing precise and non-destructive testing of miniaturized connectors, even in high-density or very small-scale applications.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Quality control during the production of miniature electrical connectors, such as in automotive or electronics manufacturing.
  • Incoming and outgoing inspection processes to ensure reliable plug/socket connections before product assembly or shipment.
  • Evaluation of connector lifespan by monitoring loss of spring force over the operational life cycle.
  • Testing both standard and custom miniaturized connectors in industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, medical devices, and industrial automation.
  • Enabling automated testing lines to quickly sort and certify connector quality.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Allows testing of extremely small connectors where traditional strain gauge methods are impossible due to size constraints.
  • Provides precise measurement of contact forces, leading to reliable electrical connections and reducing failure rates in the field.
  • Non-destructive and repeatable testing improves manufacturing yield and reduces the risk of defective products reaching customers.
  • Modular, replaceable test plugs add flexibility and lower maintenance costs for testing equipment.
  • Enables detection of connector wear and material fatigue, supporting predictive maintenance and lifespan analysis.

Patent Abstract

The invention proposes a highly miniaturized plug/socket test apparatus comprising a test plug and a socket which is to be tested, said plug and socket, when connected, forming a secure, electrically conductive plug connection, wherein the socket has one or more internal sprung elements which, together with the geometry of the socket, form a holder for the test plug and also a plug which is comparable to the test plug, wherein the longitudinal dimensions of the test plug are designed to be inserted into the socket and said test plug has a first region on which one or more electrical contacts are arranged, said contacts allowing signal transmission to equivalent electrical mating contacts when said plug is inserted in the socket, and having a second region which provides a fastening arrangement between the socket and the test plug, wherein the first region is separated from the second region, and the second region, in respect of the dimensions, corresponds to those of the comparable plug, wherein the test plug has at least one measurement cell in the second region for determining at least one proportional contact normal force in the socket when the test plug is inserted, and signals can be transmitted from the measurement cell via the at least one electrical contact in the first region for evaluation purposes.
