Openable Closure Device for the Urethra
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention concerns an implantable closure device for the urethra, designed to manage urinary incontinence. The device consists of a permanent magnet and an electromagnet arranged on opposite sides of the urethra. Under normal conditions, the magnets attract to keep the urethra closed, preventing leakage. When urine release is desired, an external, contactless switch activates the electromagnet with a brief electric current, causing the magnets to repel and open the urethra. The switching is wireless and the implant is designed to be biocompatible and gentle on surrounding tissue.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Artificial urinary sphincter for patients with urinary incontinence, especially after prostate surgery or nerve damage.
- Implantable assistive technology for people with spinal cord injuries affecting bladder control.
- Devices for managing pediatric incontinence or congenital urinary dysfunctions.
- Temporary or permanent solutions for urinary continence in post-surgical recovery.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Simple and reliable magnetic mechanism minimizes mechanical complexity and risk of failure.
- Wireless, contactless control increases user convenience and reduces the need for invasive interventions.
- Gentle opening and closing mechanism is designed to minimize tissue damage and discomfort.
- Compact, biocompatible design reduces the risk of rejection and allows long-term implantation.
- Improves quality of life for users by allowing discreet, controlled urination and reducing accidents.
- Low energy consumption due to activation only when opening, allowing longer battery life.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to openable closure devices (1) for the urethra (2). Said devices are distinguished in particular by being easy to handle. For this purpose, a permanent magnet (5) and an electromagnet (4) are arranged in such a way that the urethra is located between the permanent magnet and the electromagnet. Furthermore, the electromagnet is in the form of a pressure magnet that is connected to an energy source via a contactless switch (7) in such a way that, when no electric current flows in the electromagnet, the permanent magnet and the electromagnet close the urethra under the effect of the magnetic field of the permanent magnet and, when electric current flows in the electromagnet, the effect of the magnetic fields of both the permanent magnet and the electromagnet causes the distance to increase at least in some areas, the urethra thus being opened.
