Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes an accessory kit designed to improve clinician access to patients during MRI-guided interventional procedures. The kit includes a specialized patient support and an electrical connection adapter that together create physical space and ergonomic features to enable medical professionals to perform procedures while maintaining all necessary electronic connections between the MRI scanner and its table. The patient support is shaped (e.g., narrowed or with cutouts) to allow clinicians to stand or kneel close to the patient, and the adapter introduces a gap between the scanner and the table, further enhancing access.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • MRI-guided biopsy, needle placement, and injections
  • MRI-guided ablation (ultrasound, radiofrequency, microwave)
  • Interventional radiology procedures requiring real-time imaging and manipulation
  • Pediatric MRI procedures requiring direct access to the patient
  • MR-guided brachytherapy seed implantation
  • Emergency interventions during MRI with patient access needs
  • Integration with monitoring or auxiliary devices for complex or real-time procedures

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Provides improved clinician access to patients during MRI procedures, enhancing procedural ergonomics and safety.
  • Reduces physical barriers and risks (e.g., tangled tubing, difficult body positions), minimizing patient and clinician discomfort or hazards.
  • Maintains necessary power/data connection between MRI scanner and table, enabling direct use of electronic coils and devices.
  • Allows integration with monitoring and data devices via additional ports, facilitating advanced procedure guidance and data capture.
  • Accommodates a wide range of interventional procedures, expanding the functional use of MRI suites.
  • Modular and adaptable design can retrofit existing MRI installations without major modifications.
  • Use of MRI-safe materials ensures compatibility and safety in strong magnetic fields.

Patent Abstract

An accessory kit is provided for interventional procedures using a magnetic resonance imaging scanner. The accessory kit includes a patient support and an electrical connection adapter. The patient support has a first end proximal and a second end distal to the scanner. The distal end is configured to create a space to accommodate a clinician, such as narrowing of the distal end or at least one cutout on a side of the distal end. The electrical connection adapter interfaces with the scanner and a scanner table. The accessory kit is configured so that when the proximal end is extended into the scanner bore, the distal end extends outside the bore. The narrowed width and/or cutout(s) of the exposed distal end and the extended gap between the scanner and scanner table create space on at least one side of the patient support that a clinician may use to access a patient.
