Method for Visualising a Prospective Landing Zone of a Vascular Stent
AISimple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method and device for visualizing the likely landing zone of a vascular stent before it is fully placed in a blood vessel. By capturing and processing pairs of two-dimensional images before and during partial stent deployment, the system builds three-dimensional models of both the vessel and the prospective position of the stent, displaying this information to the operator. This helps predict the final position of the stent in the vessel, allowing for more accurate placement and adjustments before the stent is completely released.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Guiding vascular stent placement in minimally invasive procedures
- Training and education for vascular surgeons on stent deployment
- Reducing complications during stent implantation, such as unintentional blockage of branch vessels
- Enhancing intraoperative decision-making by providing real-time visualization
- Retrospective review and planning for complex endovascular interventions
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Improves accuracy of vascular stent placement by predicting the final deployed position
- Allows for real-time adjustments during surgery, reducing the risk of misplacement
- Minimizes complications such as blocking vital branches or inadequate stent coverage
- Reduces reliance on operator experience and intuition; makes procedures safer for less experienced clinicians
- Integrates with existing angiography equipment for seamless workflow
- Enables visual confirmation and simulation before finalizing stent deployment, improving patient safety

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for visualising a prospective landing zone of a vascular stent which is intended to be placed in a vessel of an organism using a delivery catheter. The method comprises the following steps: saving the parameters of the stent in an electronic data memory; capturing a first pair of two-dimensional images of a region of interest in the vessel using an image capturing unit; determining the centreline and the boundaries of the imaged vessel using a processing unit; capturing a second pair of two-dimensional images of the region of interest using the image capturing unit, once the stent has been provisionally fixed in the region of interest of the vessel without being completely disengaged from the delivery catheter; calculating a three-dimensional model of the vessel in the region of interest; calculating a three-dimensional model of the stent in its placement position for use; displaying, in a display unit, the calculated three-dimensional model of the stent or a two-dimensional projection of said model as the prospective landing zone in the image of the calculated three-dimensional model of the vessel. The invention also relates to an angiography device which is configured to carry out the method.
