Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention is a needle-shaped applicator for performing minimally invasive ablation of tissue inside the body. Uniquely, it features one or both of: (a) one or more hollow channels running from its working tip to the handle, which can be used to transport gases, liquids, or solids for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, and/or (b) an adjustable portion that can expand or contract its diameter on demand using a spreading mechanism. This enables additional functions such as precise delivery or removal of substances and dynamic adaptation to tissue size.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Minimally invasive tumor ablation procedures (such as microwave, radiofrequency, or electroporation ablation)
  • Simultaneous tissue sample extraction (biopsy) during ablation
  • On-site delivery of drugs or reactive agents directly into target tissues
  • Collection and analysis of gases, fluids, or solids released during ablation for real-time diagnostics
  • Dynamic adaptation for treating tumors of various sizes with the same applicator
  • Improved treatment of irregular or larger tumors by expanding ablation area
  • Combined therapeutic and diagnostic procedures (theranostics) without removing the applicator

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Enables both ablation and diagnostic/therapeutic medium transport within a single procedure
  • Reduces the need to withdraw and reinsert instruments, minimizing patient trauma and procedure time
  • Improves ablation precision and effectiveness by removing interfering gases or delivering enhancing agents
  • Allows tissue sampling (biopsy) without additional punctures
  • Expandable design adapts to different tissue sizes and shapes, increasing treatment flexibility
  • Potentially improves patient outcomes by allowing more comprehensive and adaptive procedures
  • Supports collection of real-time diagnostic data during therapy

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a needle-shaped applicator for carrying out minimally invasive tissue ablations in the body of a living being, wherein the applicator has, in a distal region, a needle-shaped ablation-active portion, from which the tissue ablation can be carried out by emission of an energy signal, and a proximal region, distanced from the distal region, for manipulating the applicator, said applicator having one or both of the following features a) and b): a) the applicator has at least one hollow channel extending at least from the ablation-active portion to the proximal region, which hollow channel is designed to transport at least one gaseous, liquid or solid medium or a mixture thereof from the living being to an analysis device and/or from a therapy device into the living being; b) the applicator has at least one spreading portion, in which the diameter of the applicator can be enlarged relative to the diameter at the distal region end and can be reduced again to the original diameter arbitrarily by means of a spreading mechanism of the applicator.
