Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Härten und/oder Verfestigen von Glasgegenständen, bei dem die Glasgegenstände mit einer Salzschmelze in Kontakt gebracht werden, wobei die Salzschmelze fortlaufend oder in, insbesondere regelmäßigen, zeitlichen Abständen mittels eines Regenerationsmaterials regeneriert wird. Das Verfahren zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass der Zustand des Regenerationsmaterials optisch überprüft wird. Die Erfindung betrifft außerdem eine Vorrichtung zum Härten und/oder Verfestigen von Glasgegenständen, die eine Leitung und/oder ein Bad mit einer Salzschmelze sowie ein Regenerationsmaterial zum Regenerieren der Salzschmelze aufweist.
