Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Rückgewinnung von Schwermetalloxiden aus schwermetallhaltigen Quellen umfassend die Schritte a) Bereitstellen mindestens einer schwermetallhaltigen Quelle, b) Schmelzen der mindestens einen schwermetallhaltigen Quelle, c) Behandeln der mindestens einen schmelzflüssigen schwermetallhaltigen Quelle mit Sauerstoff oder einem sauerstoffhaltigen Gasgemisch, und d) Rückgewinnung der aus der schmelzflüssigen schwermetallhaltigen Quelle verdampften Schwermetalloxide, wobei die Schritte c) und/oder d) bei Unterdruck oder Vakuum erfolgen.
