Device and Method for Determining Thermal Parameters of Borehole Material
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a device and method for determining the thermal properties of materials within boreholes. It uses telescopically extensible measuring arms that feature heat-absorbing elements (etalons) and coatings. These sensors are positioned to make contact with the borehole walls, enabling precise measurement of heat flow and thermal characteristics at various depths and through different material layers.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Geological surveys and resource exploration to assess the properties of underground formations
- Oil, gas, and geothermal drilling operations for monitoring and analyzing borehole wall characteristics
- Engineering applications where understanding subsurface material properties is important for construction or tunneling projects
- Environmental monitoring of underground heat flow for climate or energy studies
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables accurate and detailed measurement of borehole material thermal properties
- Improves the ability to distinguish between different material layers or casings in boreholes
- Supports better resource management and risk assessment in drilling and excavation projects
- The telescopic extension of measuring arms allows flexibility and adaptability to different borehole sizes and depths

Patent Abstract
The device (1) has measuring arms (6-9) comprises respective etalons (11, 13, 14, 19) at an end. The etalon of one measuring arm is arranged outside the measuring arm and comprises a dark heat absorbing coating (15). The etalon is arranged in contact with a borehole wall (24) such that a to-be-evaluated two-layer casing or a to-be-evaluated double layer (23) is provided. The etalons of other measuring arms are associated within the respective measuring arms for evaluating the layer casing and comprises the dark heat absorbing coatings toward a measuring source. The measuring arms are formed as hydraulic or pneumatic telescopically extensible measuring arms. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining depth of a borehole given by heat parameters in the borehole.
