Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent discloses a method for producing halogenalkoxy-(organo)silanes, halogenalkoxy-(organo)siloxanes, pseudohalogenalkoxy-(organo)silanes, and pseudohalogenalkoxy-(organo)siloxanes through a ligand exchange reaction. The novelty lies in using an organophosphine (a Lewis base) as a catalyst, which allows the efficient and selective substitution of alkoxy groups with halogen or pseudohalogen groups on silicon compounds. The process operates under mild, cost-effective conditions (ambient temperature and pressure, optionally solvent-free) and enables high yields with short reaction times.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Manufacturing of technologically relevant silanes and siloxanes for the silicone, coatings, adhesives, and sealants industries.
  • Production of specialty chemicals for use in surface modification, functional materials, and crosslinking agents.
  • Fine chemical synthesis where controlled incorporation of halogen or pseudohalogen groups onto silicon frameworks is needed.
  • Preparation of silicon-based intermediates for semiconductor, photovoltaic, and electronics applications.
  • Development of functionalized materials for catalysts, sensors, or separation technologies.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Enables selective and high-yield synthesis of halogen/pseudohalogen alkoxysilanes and siloxanes from readily available starting materials.
  • Significantly reduces reaction time compared to previously known catalytic or non-catalytic methods, allowing for more efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Operates under mild conditions (room temperature, atmospheric pressure) with the potential for solvent-free execution, leading to cost savings and lower environmental impact.
  • Utilizes low concentrations of widely available and inexpensive organophosphine catalysts, reducing material costs.
  • Improves process flexibility by allowing control over substitution patterns and product composition through simple variation of reactant ratios.
  • Addresses and overcomes the limitations of prior art catalysts, especially by enabling Lewis base-catalyzed reactions not previously reported.

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing a compound of general formula (I), wherein R1, at each occurrence, is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, pseudohalogen, and a -O-R2 group, wherein R2, at each occurrence, is selected from the group consisting of a substituted or unsubstituted, branched or unbranched alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and a substituted or unsubstituted alkylaryl group; m is 0 or an integer from 1 to 10; and n, at each occurrence, is 0 or 1; with the proviso that at least one of the R1 groups is halogen or pseudohalogen, and that at least one of the R1 groups is a -O-R2 group. The method comprises reacting a compound of general formula (II), wherein R6, at each occurrence, is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an R7 group, and a -O-R7 group, wherein R7, at each occurrence, is selected from the group consisting of a substituted or unsubstituted, branched or unbranched alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and a substituted or unsubstituted alkylaryl group; m and n have the meanings given in relation to general formula (I); with the proviso that at least one of the R6 groups is a -O-R7 group; with a compound of general formula (III), wherein R3, at each occurrence, is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, pseudohalogen, and an R4 group; R4, at each occurrence, is selected from the group consisting of a substituted or unsubstituted, branched or unbranched alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and a substituted or unsubstituted alkylaryl group; x is 0 or 1; and y, at each occurrence, is 0 or 1; with the proviso that at least one of the R3 groups is halogen or pseudohalogen; in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the catalyst is an organophosphine.
