Method and Use of a Device for the Production of Aluminum Nitride with Rock Salt Structure by Shock Wave Synthesis
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method for producing aluminum nitride (AlN) with a sodium chloride-like (rock salt) crystal structure using shock wave synthesis. The process involves reacting nanoscale, nitrogen-rich aluminum compounds in a closed sample container under extremely high pressure generated by shock waves. The patent also covers the use of a specific device that utilizes an ignitor, a flight plate, and a high-impedance sample container to achieve the synthesis.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Manufacturing advanced ceramic materials for electronics and optoelectronic devices
- Production of robust, heat-resistant components for power electronics or LEDs
- Synthesis of specialized forms of aluminum nitride for research and development in materials science
- Creation of substrates for high-frequency or high-power devices
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables the formation of aluminum nitride in a specific, potentially advantageous crystal structure (rock salt type) that is difficult to achieve through conventional processes
- Allows precise control over synthesis conditions via shock waves, leading to potentially higher purity or novel properties
- May result in improved thermal or electrical conductivity, toughness, or other desirable material qualities in the final product
- Innovative shock wave-based method can reduce production times and possibly lower costs compared to traditional high-temperature synthesis methods

Patent Abstract
Preparing aluminum nitride in common salt structure comprises reacting a powdery nanoscale sample of a nitrogen-rich aluminum compound or a mixture of an aluminum compound and a nitrogenous substance in a generally closed cavity of a sample container with a shock wave and at a pressure of 15-40 GPa. An independent claim is included for a use of a device comprising (a) an ignitor (1) for detonation of an explosive, (b) a flight plate (4) made from a material having a high impedance acceleratable by a shock wave, and (c) a sample container made from a material of high impedance with a closed cavity acceleratable by a shock wave, for the preparation of aluminum nitride in common salt structure.
