Process for the Preparation of Hydridoalkoxysilanes
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method for producing hydridoalkoxysilanes by reacting halogenalkoxysilanes with sodium borohydride in acetonitrile as a solvent. The process enables the efficient conversion of halogenated alkoxysilanes (where the halogen is typically chlorine, but can also be fluorine, bromine, or iodine) to their corresponding hydridoalkoxysilanes (such as triethoxysilane or trimethoxysilane), which are valuable intermediates in organosilicon chemistry. The process can be done at ambient temperature and pressure, without the need for a catalyst.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Production of hydridoalkoxysilanes as intermediates for silicone and silane coupling agents manufacturing.
- Recycling of halogenalkoxysilane byproducts in industrial chemical processes to produce value-added hydridoalkoxysilanes.
- Manufacture of advanced materials for electronics, coatings, and adhesives which utilize hydridoalkoxysilanes as key raw materials.
- Facilitation of downstream synthesis in organic and inorganic silicon chemistry by providing purer, more easily obtainable hydridoalkoxysilanes.
- Reduction of industrial waste by converting unwanted halogenalkoxysilanes into useful compounds.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables efficient, straightforward synthesis of hydridoalkoxysilanes from halogenalkoxysilanes using sodium borohydride, a relatively safe and available reagent.
- Process operates under mild conditions (room temperature and pressure, no catalyst required), reducing energy consumption and equipment cost.
- Selective conversion reduces formation of byproducts, improving yield and product purity.
- Allows recycling and utilization of industrial byproduct streams, enhancing resource efficiency and economic viability.
- Process is scalable and adaptable to various alkyl groups, increasing its industrial flexibility.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for producing a compound of general formula (I), wherein R1 at every occurrence is a substituted or unsubstituted, branched or unbranched alkyl group with 1 to 12 carbon atoms. According to the method, a compound of general formula (II), wherein R1 at every occurrence has the definitions indicated with respect to formula (I) and X is halogen, is reacted with a hydrating agent in acetonitrile as the solvent to form a compound of general formula (I), wherein the hydrating agent is sodium borohydride.
