Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Gewinnung und/oder Reinigung von Indiumoxid aus Zusammensetzungen, enthaltend Indiumverbindungen sowie Verbindungen anderer, verunreingender ein-, zwei-, drei- und/oder vierwertiger Metalle, mit den Schritten: • Überführen der Indiumverbindungen sowie der Metallverbindungen in ihre Oxide und/oder Hydroxide, • Kalzinierung der Hydroxide und/oder Oxide, • Behandlung des kalzinierten Materials mit mindestens einer Mercaptocarbonsäure und/oder deren Estern und/oder deren Salzen in wässriger und/oder organischer Lösung, wobei die Lösung mit den Oxiden und/oder Hydroxiden beladen wird und wobei Indiumoxid als fester Rückstand verbleibt, • Abtrennung des indiumoxidhaltigen Rückstandes von der beladenen Lösung. Gegenstand der Erfindung ist außerdem die Verwendung von Mercaptocarbonsäuren zur Gewinnung und/oder Reinigung von Indiumoxid.
