Process for the Preparation of Hydroboranes
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a process and device for producing hydroboranes by hydrogenating a boron halide compound in the presence of a catalyst. The method splits the reactions into two separate chambers connected by a gaseous phase, allowing for more controlled removal of hydrogen halide byproducts. A specially managed temperature and HX-binding agent are used to optimize the process.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Production of hydroboranes for use in organic synthesis as reducing agents
- Manufacture of hydroboranes for use as intermediates in pharmaceuticals or specialty chemicals
- Industrial-scale preparation of hydroboranes for use in hydrogen storage or transfer applications
- Production of hydroboranes for use in electronic materials or advanced material synthesis
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Allows for efficient and controlled production of hydroboranes with minimized byproduct contamination
- Improves purity and stability of hydroborane products by effective removal of hydrogen halide byproducts
- Enables safer operation by separating reactive steps into different chambers and controlling temperatures

Patent Abstract
Preparing hydroborane comprises hydrogenating a boron compound (I) in the presence of a hydrogenated catalyst, where: the reactions are carried out in separate reaction chambers, which are connected over a gaseous phase; the reaction solution for the hydrodehalogenation comprising a Lewis base, (I), the catalyst and a solvent; the HX-binding reaction takes place with a hydrogen halide acceptor; the gaseous phase between reaction chambers is maintained at a temperature of 10[deg] C to -80[deg] C, preferably 0[deg] C to -30[deg] C. Preparing hydroborane comprises hydrogenating a boron compound of formula (BX 3) (I) in the presence of a hydrogenated catalyst, where: the hydrogenation step consists of two partial reactions, which are hydrodehalogenation and HX-binding reaction; the reactions are carried out in separate reaction chambers, which are connected over a gaseous phase; the reaction solution for the hydrodehalogenation comprising a Lewis base, (I), the catalyst and a solvent; the HX-binding reaction takes place with a hydrogen halide acceptor; the gaseous phase between reaction chambers is maintained at a temperature of 10[deg] C to -80[deg] C, preferably 0[deg] C to -30[deg] C; the reaction temperature in the reaction chambers of the hydrodehalogenation is selected in such a way that the adduct of (I) is dissociated and the hydraulic borane adducts remain stable; and the obtained HX is removed from the reaction chamber of the hydrodehalogenation by the HX-binding reaction in another reaction chamber. X : Cl or Br. An independent claim is included for a device for the preparation of hydroborane comprising a device containing a hydrodehalogenation reactor (A1), a hydrogen halide forming reactor (A2) and a coolable gas chamber (RK), which is arranged between the hydrodehalogenation reactor and hydrogen halide forming reactor.
