Method and Apparatus for Casting and Rolling of Magnesium Wires
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method and apparatus for manufacturing magnesium wire by casting and rolling. Liquid magnesium is poured through a nozzle between two counter-rotating wheels that shape and solidify the metal before it reaches the tightest point between the wheels. The solidified magnesium is then rolled and cooled with a liquid inert gas to produce high-quality magnesium wire with various cross-sectional shapes and diameters.

Patent Abstract
The process comprises continuously pouring a stream of liquid magnesium over a nozzle and introducing the stream between two counter-rotating casting wheels having a circumferential, corresponding caliber (14), exiting the liquid magnesium and completely solidifying the liquid magnesium before a closest point between the casting wheels, and rolling the solidified magnesium. The liquid magnesium is completely solidified at a small distance in front of the narrowest point between the casting wheels. The method further comprises cooling the rolled magnesium wire. The method further comprises cooling the rolled magnesium wire after exiting from the casting wheels using a liquid inert gas. The magnesium wire has a round, an oval or n-polygonal cross section, and a largest diameter of 1-20 mm. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for preparation of magnesium wire.
