Porous layer open tubular (PLOT) column comprises a fused silica capillary, whose inner surface has a grown up layer of metal-organic frameworks (MOF) crystallites. Independent claims are also included for: (1) preparing the PLOT column, comprising (a) modifying the inner surface of the gas chromatography fused silica capillary for generating functional groups on their surface, (b) coating the modified inner surface with the spacer molecules with a anchor group and a head group, (c) applying multiple alternating coating having a secondary building units (SBU) precursor solution containing compounds of formula (M wO x(OH) yA z), and a linker solution containing at least one ditopic organic compound, for growing of MOF crystallites and their compounds with the head groups of the spacer molecule, and (d) removing the residual solution; and (2) an apparatus for the production of PLOT columns with the MOF coating, comprising at least two controllable dosing units, a heating furnace for holding the capillary to be coated, inlet and outlet pipes for the capillary to be coated, and controllable valves in supply lines. w : 3-8; x : 1-4; y : 0-6; z : 2-12; M : metal; and A : at least one monotopic anion with at least one functional.
