Method for transmitting data via a transmission channel, communication network and computer program
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method and supporting system for optimizing and controlling the quality of data transmission between a network node and a mobile device in IP-based communication networks. It uses a central decision logic that processes service quality parameters from both the network node and the mobile device. Based on these parameters, the system dynamically selects and instructs a transcoder within the transmission channel to adapt codecs and bitrates, ensuring data is delivered in a form optimal for the current network conditions and device capabilities. This arrangement allows for seamless service even when switching between different network access points (handovers).
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Mobile data streaming applications (audio/video) that adapt to changing network conditions and device types.
- Telecommunications services that require quality of service management during handovers (e.g., VoIP calls, video conferencing).
- Internet of Things (IoT) communications where end devices have varying bandwidth and protocol capabilities.
- Enterprise communication platforms supporting employees with different devices and access networks.
- Cloud gaming services where adaptive data transmission ensures smooth gameplay across heterogeneous networks.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reduces computational demands on mobile devices by delegating quality adaptation decisions and transcoding to the network.
- Improves end-user experience by providing smoother and more consistent data delivery, especially during network handovers.
- Allows centralized control and optimization, facilitating network operator policies and specific preferences.
- Supports multi-device and multi-network scenarios with automatic adaptation to available bandwidth and codecs.
- Enables real-time and policy-based quality adjustments, allowing scalable and targeted performance optimization.

Patent Abstract
The method involves establishing a central decision logic (AQS) by processing two service quality parameters, where the central decision logic is utilized for data e.g. audio data, transmission between network nodes (DQ) and a mobile terminal (UE). The data transmission parameter is transmitted to a transcoder (TCS) that is arranged in a transmission channel. Data is received by the transcoder from the network nodes and the data transmission parameter is transformed and transferred to the mobile terminal by the transcoder under utilization of a data transmission channel. An independent claim is also included for a computer program product with software code sections for implementing a method for transmitting data between a network node and a mobile terminal in an Internet-protocol based communication network.
