Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention describes a device and method for efficiently transferring heat between a liquid (such as water, salt solution, or ionic liquid) and a gas (such as air or natural gas) using a specialized exchange element that is partially submerged in a liquid reservoir and arranged such that the liquid flows along the surface of the exchange element. The unique arrangement allows for improved control and even distribution of the liquid, minimizes droplet formation, and enhances direct contact between the gas and the liquid for better heat and mass transfer.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Drying natural gas by transferring moisture from the gas to a specialized liquid desiccant.
  • Dehumidification and air conditioning systems where efficient heat and moisture transfer is needed.
  • Industrial processes requiring direct contact heat exchangers for gases and liquids, such as chemical processing or gas cleaning.
  • Cooling towers or evaporative cooling applications.
  • Water recovery or humidity control in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Enhanced efficiency of heat and mass transfer between liquid and gas due to optimized contact and liquid distribution.
  • Reduced droplet formation prevents loss of expensive or corrosive desiccant liquids, improving reliability and reducing maintenance.
  • Adjustable liquid flow for precise control over the exchange process, enabling adaptation to different operating conditions.
  • Compatibility with a range of liquids and gases for broad industrial applicability.
  • Minimized risk of corrosion in downstream equipment by preventing unwanted carry-over of liquid into the gas stream.

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a device for heat transfer between a liquid and a gas, comprising: a gas inlet for providing the gas into an exchange region, a gas outlet for retrieving the gas from the exchange region, a liquid inlet connected to a reservoir for holding the liquid, wherein the reservoir is formed with an opening in an upper region of the reservoir, and wherein the reservoir is arranged at an upper end of the exchange region, an impounding basin, wherein the impounding basin is arranged below the reservoir, and wherein the impounding basin is formed with a liquid outlet, and an exchange element arranged in the exchange region, wherein an upper part of the exchange element is disposed through the opening of the reservoir such that the upper part of the exchange element is arranged at least partially inside the reservoir and such that the upper part of the exchange element is at least partially submerged in the liquid. Furthermore, a method for operating a heat transfer device is disclosed.
