Treatment of Powder Varnish Waste for Use in Recycling Method
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a process for recycling powder coating (powder varnish) waste. The key innovation is treating the waste with a surfactant, such as certain fatty acids (like stearic acid), fatty alcohols, or polyethylene glycol, which reduces or eliminates the waste's tendency to adhere to surfaces, especially metal. This treatment makes it possible to further process the powder waste under heat without it sticking to processing equipment, allowing it to be used as a raw material in various recycling methods or in other applications.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Recycling industrial powder coating waste from manufacturing and coating facilities.
- Production of plastic granulates or fillers from powder coating waste for use in injection molding, extrusion, or other plastic-processing industries.
- Manufacturing of thermoplastic composites or filled plastics using recycled powder varnish waste.
- Producing 3D printing filaments (e.g., for Fused Deposition Modeling) from recycled powder coatings.
- As a component in construction materials or specialized coatings where recycled content is desirable.
- Application in select additive manufacturing methods (e.g., selective laser sintering with recycled powder).
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reduces landfill waste and environmental impact by recycling significant amounts of powder varnish waste, which is otherwise costly to dispose of.
- Enables the direct use of powder coating waste as a raw material for new industrial processes, promoting the circular economy.
- Prevents damage or fouling of metal processing equipment due to unwanted adhesion of powder residues during heating and processing, increasing operational efficiency.
- Requires only small amounts of surfactant additives to achieve effective results, making the process cost-effective.
- Offers versatility as different types of powder coating waste (thermoplastic and thermoset) can be recycled using this method.
- Improves health and safety conditions by reducing dust and handling hazards when mixing recycled powder waste with polymers.

Patent Abstract
