System and method for embedding content in web pages distributed by a wireless access point
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a system and method that enable wireless access points (such as home WiFi routers or similar customer premises equipment) to automatically embed additional content—such as advertisements—into web pages that users request through their wireless connection. The system monitors the user's web browsing activity at the network device level, determines appropriate supplemental content based on user activity and location, and embeds this content directly into the requested web pages before serving them to the user. All of this is accomplished transparently, without requiring changes to the user's device or browser.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Targeted advertising for public or commercial WiFi networks (e.g., cafes, hotels, airports) where location-based or interest-based ads can be served to connected users.
- Revenue generation for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or businesses operating public WiFi through dynamic ad insertion.
- Providing informational banners or messages (e.g., security alerts, news, community announcements) to users of local wireless networks.
- Educational networks or campuses delivering custom messages, learning content, or compliance notices to students' devices when they access web pages.
- Retail environments delivering coupons, personalized offers, or loyalty program content based on user's browsing activity and store location.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Delivers targeted or context-specific content to users without modifying their devices or web browsers.
- Enables ISPs and network owners to open new revenue streams through dynamic content and ad delivery.
- Operates transparently at the network edge, distributing processing load and reducing traffic to central servers.
- Supports real-time or near-real-time selection of content based on both user activity and physical location.
- Can be used not only for advertising, but for delivering important, timely, or location-relevant informational messages to users.
- Works with standard web protocols and browsers, minimizing compatibility issues.

Patent Abstract
The present invention relates to a computer system and a method for inserting or merging additional or supplementary contents into the web contents retrieved by a user connected over a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to the Internet. The broadband access can be provisioned by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) via any wired or wireless access technology, for instance, DSL, cable connections, optical fibre, or WiMax. The WAP can be a standalone apparatus, or it can be in- built in an Internet connectivity apparatus like a DSL or cable modem located in an ISP user's premises, henceforth the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). In sum, the present invention allows the CPE to embed selective contents based on user activity and location into the web pages requested by a mobile user. This is done by caching the web pages in the CPE using a transparent proxy, embedding the contents retrieved from a content provider, and distributing them to the user.
