Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a method and device for automatically detecting different phases of an airplane flight, such as takeoff and landing, using accelerometer sensors connected to (or integrated in) a mobile GSM communication device—commonly installed in air cargo containers. By processing and analyzing acceleration data through pattern recognition algorithms, the system can accurately identify flight events and accordingly switch the communication device on or off to prevent interference with aircraft systems.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Automatic management of GSM communication devices in air cargo, ensuring devices are powered off during takeoff and landing to comply with aviation regulations.
  • Integration into smart air cargo containers to automate communication status changes, reducing manual intervention.
  • Usage in flight data recorders or cargo monitoring systems to log precise flight events based on acceleration signatures.
  • Enhancing safety by preventing potential interference from wireless communications during critical flight phases.
  • Application in any transport container using accelerometer data to detect vehicle motion states for safety or communication purposes.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Automated detection and response reduce risk of human error in switching devices on/off during crucial flight times.
  • Minimizes potential interference with aircraft navigation by ensuring communication devices are disabled only when truly necessary.
  • Adaptability: System can be implemented as a stand-alone unit or integrated into existing mobile devices/cargo systems without needing extensive hardware changes.
  • Data-driven and robust, leveraging machine learning/statistical models for accurate event classification regardless of varying flight conditions.
  • Improves operational efficiency for air cargo logistics by automating device management and event logging.

Patent Abstract

The invention provides a method for detecting air plane flight events, preferably taking off and/or lauding, using at least one acceleration sensor associated with a mobile, GSM, communication device, the method comprising the steps of: obtaining at least one acceleration signal from said at least one acceleration sensor; pre-processing said obtained at least one acceleration signal to remove redundant information present in said signal(s); performing a feature extraction on said pre-processed at least one acceleration signal; and classifying air plane flight events based on the acceleration pattern represented by the extracted acceleration features.
