Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention describes a method and device for producing extruded metal strands, such as rods or profiles, using extrusion with controlled back pressure. The process involves pressing a block of extrudable material through a die into a downstream pressure chamber, where the extruded strand is subjected to back pressure by a pressure fluid—typically a liquid. This regulated back pressure can alter the material's internal structure and mechanical properties, providing extra control over the final product.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Manufacturing lightweight structural components for the automotive and aerospace industries, especially with magnesium or aluminum alloys
  • Producing rods, tubes, and intricate profiles from metals or metal composite materials with tailored internal structures
  • Creating extruded semi-finished products with improved mechanical properties for use in machinery, construction, or transportation
  • Advanced forming of difficult-to-extrude materials that benefit from controlled internal structure (e.g., certain alloys or powder metallurgical products)

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Enhanced control over the inner material structure (e.g., grain orientation and texture) of the extruded strand, leading to improved mechanical properties like strength and corrosion resistance
  • Ability to manufacture products with customizable properties tailored to specific engineering needs, such as crash-resistant automotive components
  • Potential for improved formability of materials not easily extruded by conventional methods
  • Efficient heat removal from the extruded strand during processing, reducing defects and improving quality
  • Reduced need for additional mechanical tools (like back-pressure rams), simplifying device construction and potentially lowering costs

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for producing an extruded strand by means of extrusion. In the method, the extruded strand (1) is formed by forcing a block (2) of extrudable material by means of a pressing tool (6) through a die (5) into a downstream pressure chamber (4a), whereby the extruded strand (1) comes into contact with a pressure fluid in the pressure chamber (4a) and by means of the pressure fluid is subjected to a back pressure higher than ambient air pressure.
