Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

The invention describes a rotor (such as one used in wind turbines or propellers) with an innovative mechanism that allows for the adjustment of the angle (pitch) of its blades. This is achieved with a compact adjustment device utilizing a coupling component at the blade root, which interacts with a slanted guide on an adjustment component. By axially moving the adjustment component along the rotor's axis, the blade pitch can be precisely and efficiently changed, either manually, mechanically, or automatically (such as in response to wind pressure). The invention also includes a method for making these pitch adjustments, even during rotor operation.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Small wind turbines needing simple and affordable pitch control for overload protection and improved efficiency.
  • Model aircraft, drones, and small motor aircraft requiring adaptive propeller pitch for optimal performance in different flight modes.
  • Ship propellers or water turbines where blade pitch adjustment can enhance efficiency or prevent overloading.
  • Retrofit or new design of small energy-generation systems (wind or water) where space-saving and cost-effective variable-pitch mechanisms are valuable.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Compact and simplified construction allows for use in small-scale rotors where traditional mechanisms are too bulky or expensive.
  • Precise and smooth adjustment of blade pitch, enhancing operational efficiency and safety (e.g., preventing overload in high wind).
  • Potential for automatic or low-maintenance operation (e.g., wind-actuated pitch adjustment), reducing the need for complex electronics or manual intervention.
  • Increased energy efficiency and adaptability across variable operation conditions (e.g., different flight speeds or wind strengths).
  • Cost-effective solution suitable for mass production or retrofit in small devices.

Patent Abstract

The present disclosure refers to a rotor (1) comprising a rotor blade (3), a hub (2), on which the rotor blade (3) is held by means of a bearing, and an adjustment device (7, 8, 10), in which a coupling component (7) arranged at the foot (5) of the rotor blade (3) is mounted in a guide (10) arranged on an adjustment component (8), such that by means of a displacement of the adjustment component (8) axially with respect to the axis of rotation (11) of the rotor of the hub (2) a pitch angle of the rotor blade can be altered, wherein the guide (10) runs at an inclination to the axis of rotation (11) of the rotor, at least during the axial displacement of the adjustment component (8). Also disclosed is a method for adjusting a pitch angle of a rotor blade. (FIG. 1)
