Release Apparatus for a Load on a Device and Underwater Device
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention describes a release apparatus specifically designed for managing loads on devices such as underwater vehicles or stations. The apparatus uses a unique hook mechanism that holds a load securely without any torque being exerted on the hook when it is in the closed position. The design ensures the load can be released quickly and reliably, guided along a specific ejection direction using a positive guide. This mechanism operates with low energy consumption and is suitable for a wide range of loads, regardless of depth or orientation underwater.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Automated release of weights from autonomous or remotely operated underwater vehicles (AUVs/ROVs) for surfacing or emergency retrieval operations.
- Release of data-logging sensors, equipment, or modules from underwater research stations after mission completion.
- Deployment and recovery of underwater payloads, anchors, or buoys for marine science or offshore industries.
- Emergency release mechanisms for submersible rescue or salvage missions.
- Sea-floor monitoring systems where periodic surfacing of devices for data retrieval is required.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Torque-free design in the closed position ensures high reliability and prevents accidental release.
- Low-energy release mechanism, enabling long-term autonomous operation, crucial for underwater devices with limited power supply.
- Compact and simple mechanical structure reduces the risk of failure due to moving parts and biofouling in harsh underwater environments.
- Capable of handling loads with widely varying weights and buoyancies, offering flexibility for different mission requirements.
- Operation is independent of deployment depth or orientation, thus enhancing safety and versatility.
- Reusable design does not expend parts during the release, reducing operational costs.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a release apparatus for a load on a device, in particular an underwater device, having a hook device in which a hook is mounted on a hook holding device such that it can rotate about a rotation axis, and can be moved with the aid of a hook operating mechanism, between a closed position and a released position, by rotation about the rotation axis, a load rest, which is formed on the hook and in which a holding element for the load rests when not released, and a positive guide, which is configured to guide the load along an ejection direction when released, wherein, when the holding element of the load is resting on the load support, the hook is not subject to any torque when in the closed position, in terms of any torque which is exerted by the load on the hook with respect to the rotation about the rotation axis. An underwater device having a release apparatus is also provided.
