Reproduction of a sound field in a target sound area
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention presents a method and apparatus for optimally reproducing a sound field within a designated target area using multiple loudspeakers (electro-acoustic transducers). By analytically calculating drive signals and applying spatial band-limiting techniques, the system can enhance sound accuracy specifically within a chosen 'sweet spot' or optimization region. Furthermore, this high-precision area can be dynamically moved, even in real-time, to follow the position of a listener.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- High-fidelity 3D audio in home theater systems
- Targeted sound experiences in virtual or augmented reality environments
- Personalized sound zones in public venues, such as museums or exhibition spaces
- Dynamic sound field adaptation in simulators or training environments
- Audio systems for conference rooms that can optimize for individual participants' positions
- Immersive theme park attractions with moving sound zones
- Gaming systems with personalized spatial audio
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Improved accuracy of sound field reproduction within a defined area compared to conventional methods
- Flexibility to place or move the optimal listening zone (sweet spot) anywhere within the target area
- Real-time adjustment of audio optimization to track moving listeners, enhancing personalized experience
- No requirement for speakers to fully surround the target area, enabling more versatile physical setups
- Reduced computational complexity compared to traditional, purely numerical approaches
- Applicable to both multi-channel (surround) and standard audio sources
- Supports a wide range of applications, from entertainment to professional audio environments

Patent Abstract
The method involves analytically determining a drive signal for electro-acoustic transducer corresponding to sound field which is to be reproduced in a target acoustic region below spatial aliasing frequency of sound. The drive signal is changed by spatial band-limiting, so that the sound is reproduced within a range of optimization with higher accuracy and the modified drive signal to the electro-acoustic transducer. An independent claim is included for apparatus for reproducing sound in target acoustic region.
