Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention is a compact moment-and-force sensor made from a single piece of material, forming a frame with a central opening. The sensor integrates specially located securing points in different planes and features slanted transition sections connecting them. Measurement sensors, typically strain gauges, are placed in these transition regions to precisely detect deformations caused by forces and torques (moments) applied to the device. The unique frame structure enables the simultaneous measurement of bending moments in two axes and axial force with high accuracy.

  • Integration into sports equipment for force and torque monitoring
  • Load and force measurement in road and rail vehicles
  • Force sensing in construction machinery and heavy equipment
  • Robotic joint force and torque measurement
  • Structural health monitoring where space is limited
  • Replacement for assemblies that used multiple separate force sensors with a single compact unit

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Highly compact and flat design allows installation in space-restricted environments
  • Simultaneous measurement of moments (torques) in multiple axes and axial force reduces the need for multiple sensors
  • High measurement accuracy due to optimized placement of strain gauges in deformation hotspots
  • Simplified construction with a single-piece frame enhances robustness and reduces potential failure points
  • Adaptable to different size and strength requirements by changing material thickness and shape
  • Provides cost and installation efficiency by replacing multiple individual sensors

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a moment-and-force sensor comprising a one-piece main part that forms a frame enclosing a central opening and defining two securing planes which are offset with respect to one another. On each securing plane at least three securing points or surfaces are provided, on corresponding securing sections of the frame, and are arranged alternately in one of the two securing planes, in the circumferential frame direction. The frame changes in thickness between said securing sections, from one securing plane to the other, and comprises transition sections which extend at an incline to said securing planes, interconnect the securing sections of the frame, and each of which has measurement sensors arranged therein in order to detect material extension of the frame.
