Method and system of using networked virtual machines of mobile devices in the cloud to provide mobile applications and services
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a cloud-based method and system where each mobile device, such as a smartphone, has a corresponding virtual machine (clone) in the cloud. These clones host system images of the devices, execute tasks offloaded by the mobile devices, and are interconnected to form a network for collaborative activities. This architecture enables distributed computing and storage for mobile applications, such as data searching, sharing, security tasks, and sensing, while improving performance and security for mobile users.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Offloading resource-intensive mobile app computations to the cloud to save battery and improve device performance.
- Distributed data searching and secure sharing of content (photos, audio, video) across mobile users using cloud clones.
- Collaborative virus/malware scanning by aggregating data and analysis across multiple device clones in the cloud.
- Crowd-sourced traffic and community sensing applications where data from many devices can be analyzed collectively.
- Efficient remote backup and secure cloud-based storage for mobile devices.
- Seamless migration of mobile work environments between different cloud infrastructures as users move geographically.
- Developing mobile applications that require high availability, scalability, or efficient distribution beyond what single devices allow.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Improves mobile device performance and battery life by offloading intensive processing to the cloud.
- Enables real-time collaboration and data analysis using networks of device clones, enhancing the capabilities of mobile apps.
- Provides scalable and flexible cloud resources, making it easy to support more users or more data as needed.
- Enhances data security and privacy through managed and encrypted storage, as well as controlled access to device data in the cloud.
- Facilitates efficient sharing and searching of user-generated content across a broad user base.
- Allows for dynamic migration of virtual machines, supporting uninterrupted service as users move or as cloud resources change.
- Minimizes deployment and management complexity for mobile application developers by consolidating resources and networking in the cloud.

Patent Abstract
The present invention relates to a method and a system of using the networked virtual machines of mobile devices such as smartphones in the cloud to provide mobile applications and services, such as distributed data searching and sharing, collaborative virus scanning, and crowd-sourced traffic monitoring. The system according to the present invention comprises: at least one cloud including a plurality of interconnected virtual machines, wherein each virtual machine being associated with a mobile device hosts a running system image of the mobile device and is adapted to execute tasks requested from the mobile device; at least one distributed file system being data storage for the virtual machines; and at least a networking mechanism which assigns a routable network name to each virtual machine and facilities the communications between virtual machines within or inter clouds.
