Method for improved link adaptation in cellular wireless networks
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention introduces a method to improve how wireless cellular networks select and adjust communication parameters (like data rate and modulation scheme) by accurately predicting interference from other devices scheduled to use the same radio resources. By sharing transmission schedules and channel information among base stations before data is sent, the system can anticipate interference in real-time and adapt settings accordingly—leading to more reliable and efficient wireless communications.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Mobile cellular networks (3G, 4G LTE, 5G) to enhance data throughput and reliability for users
- Base stations cooperating in dense urban environments to reduce call drops and improve service quality
- Wireless network management tools optimizing spectrum allocation in real-time
- Internet of Things (IoT) networks requiring efficient use of limited wireless spectrum
- Rural networks or edge-of-cell scenarios where users frequently experience interference
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly improved network spectral efficiency (more data transferred within the same spectrum)
- Higher throughput, especially for users at the cell edge or in high-interference scenarios
- More reliable data transmission by reducing mismatches between assumed and actual interference
- Minimized transmission errors and retransmissions, lowering latency
- Better fairness across users due to robust interference handling
- Achieved performance gains with moderate additional signaling and low implementation complexity

Patent Abstract
As a new and improved way for improving spectral efficiency of a cellular wireless network the invention proposes a method for communication with the steps of allocating a pre-determined wireless resource to be used for a first data transmission from a first transmitting device (410; 120) to a first receiving device (120; 410) during a predetermined time interval, determining at least one second transmitting device (420, 430, 440, 450; 110, 130) scheduled for a second data transmission via said predetermined wireless resource during said pre-determined time interval, providing channel state information of at least one of the communication channels between respective ones of said second transmitting devices (420, 430, 440, 450; 110, 130) and said first receiving device (120; 410), predicting an interference state for said first data transmission caused by said second data transmissions based on said channel state information, defining at least one transmission parameter for said first data transmission based on said predicted interference state, and performing said first data transmission during said pre-determined time interval using the defined transmission parameters. The invention further proposes a cellular wireless communication network, a base station and a mobile communication device for performing such a method.
